The Nigerian Communications Commission has disclosed that approximately 210 million Nigerians were active mobile subscribers in August, with a teledensity of 109.99 percent.

The executive chairman of the Commission, stated at the ongoing 43rd Kano International Trade Fair that the country’s Internet subscribers had surpassed 152.2 million, with a broadband penetration of 44.56 percent.

Dambatta, who was represented by Banji Ojo, the commission’s Deputy Director, Consumer Affairs, stated that the NCC has begun digital literacy training for entrepreneurs across the country’s six geopolitical zones.

He stated that the goal was to provide small-business owners with the necessary skills and to generate ideas for the development of products and services that could be sold.

He said; “Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is not the only fastest growing industry but it is also an important enabler of innovation and development.

“The telecommunication sector is a strategic driver of the digital economy, especially in the activities of small and medium enterprises across Nigeria and beyond”, he added.

Alhaji Ahmed Aminu, Interim Chairman of the Kano Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture, hailed the NCC for promoting the telecommunications industry.

Aminu stated that the 43rd Kano Trade Fair was organised to promote commerce and industry as well as to showcase the talents and products of SMEs in order to boost the economy.
