At least three employees of Google have been injured after an electrical explosion rocked the tech giant’s data centre in Iowa, United States of America, on Monday.
Local media reported that one of the victims suffered a lower torso injury and another worker has severe burns on his left arm and thigh.
According to DNA India, the third worker had burns on the face due to the explosion which was said to have taken place due to arc flash.
Hours after the explosion, a global outage of Google services was reported on Tuesday morning as Google services such as Search and Trends faced a major outage all over the globe on Tuesday morning.
Tens of thousands of users reported being unable to access various Google services on Monday night, AFP said, quoting outage monitor Downdetector.
“User reports indicate Google Maps is having problems since 9:36 PM EDT (0136 GMT),” Downdetector tweeted.
More than 40,000 users, including in New York City and Denver, Colorado, reported disruptions when trying to use Google’s services, particularly the maps and search engine.
After around two hours, reports of the outage began tapering, but a small number of users continued to report trouble accessing Google’s cloud and calendar functions, according to Downdetector.
“We’re aware of a software update issue that occurred late this afternoon Pacific Time and briefly affected availability of Google Search and Maps, and we apologize for the inconvenience,” a Google spokesperson said.
“We worked to quickly address the issue and our services are now back online.”
On Twitter, some users posted screenshots of the 500 error message they received while trying to use Google, which said the server had “encountered an error and could not complete your request.”
Google services were down this morning for users across the globe.”502. That’s an error. The server encountered a temporary error and could not complete your request. Please try again in 30 seconds. That’s all we know,” the message prompt read when users tried to use Google services.
A few users also saw a message that read “We are sorry but it appears that there has been an internal server error while processing your request. Our engineers have been notified and are working to resolve the issue. Please try again later.”
