Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co Ltd, the world’s largest contract chipmaker, has disclosed the company will recruit more than 6,000 new staff in 2023.

This was contained in a statement the company put out on Saturday.

The recruitment is coming despite a global downturn in the chip industry.

The company said they will seek young engineers with associates, bachelor’s, masters’s or doctorate degrees in electrical engineering or software-related fields, in cities all across Taiwan.

The annual average salary of a new engineer with a master’s degree is $65,578.07, the company added.

The decline in demand for electronics because of a shortage of some chips led to a downturn for the semiconductor industry.

Intel Corp, of the world’s biggest chip makers recently announced payment cuts to mid-level staff and executives from 5% to 25%.

However, TSMC’s dominance in making advanced chips for high-networth customers like Apple Inc has shielded it from downturn.

The company slightly reduced its annual capital expenditure for 2023 and predicts a first-quarter revenue drop, but expects demand to pick up by the second quarter of the year.
