TikTok plans paywall for content creators

Tiktok is planning to introduce paid videos and renew the creator fund.

Paid videos, or paywalled videos, will see users pay before viewing a particular video.

According to The Information, these are part of the plans of the short video platform as their growth became a little stagnant in the US.

According to the article, the business is developing a tool that would let creators charge viewers $1 or any other amount of their choosing to access videos behind a barrier.

It’s unclear how exactly this feature would operate, but it would provide the app’s developers a means to profit directly from their most popular videos.

Since Instagram allows creators to upload content that is solely available to subscribers, the concept of exclusive content for paying consumers is not new.

If implemented, the functionality would enable TikTok to better reward its creators, who are the engine behind the app’s development and success thanks to their viral videos.

In addition, TikTok is thinking about increasing the minimum number of followers needed to qualify for the fund from the current 10,000 to 100,000.

According to reports, TikTok is testing the updated fund in France and Brazil. According to the article, the redesigned creator fund might debut in the United States as early as next month.

Given that its largest rivals are expanding their capabilities, the additions would increase TikTok’s present creator payout offerings.

YouTube started paying Shorts creators a portion of ad income this month.

Up until this point, no short-form video platform has completely figured out how to split ad income, giving Shorts a sizable advantage over the competition.

However, the rumored impending modifications for TikTok show that it is seeking for novel approaches to please creators.
