Snapchat introduces ChatGPT-powered chatbot

Snapchat on Monday announced the debut of “My AI,” a brand-new chatbot that uses the most recent version of OpenAI’s GPT technology and has been tailored for its customers.

The $3.99 per month subscription service for the social network, Snapchat+, now offers My AI as a test feature.

On the Chat tab, the new chatbot will be pinned to the top. My AI is capable of writing a haiku or assisting me in answering a trivia question.

My artificial intelligence (AI) was taught to have a distinctive voice and personality that support its values of “friendship, learning, and fun.” Also, it has been instructed to follow the app’s trust and safety policies.

“My AI can recommend birthday gift ideas for your BFF, plan a hiking trip for a long weekend, suggest a recipe for dinner, or even write a haiku about cheese for your cheddar-obsessed pal,” Snap wrote in a blog post.

“Make My AI your own by giving it a name and customizing the wallpaper for your Chat.”

Snapchat warns that My AI “as with all AI-powered chatbots,” can be made to say practically anything.

It appears that the business is making a reference to the chaos that Microsoft’s Bing, which was recently updated with OpenAI’s GPT-4 model, caused.

It’s important to keep in mind that Snapchat’s My AI isn’t intended to function as a search engine, in contrast to Microsoft’s plans with Bing.

Instead, it’s viewed as a Snapchat character that you can communicate with just like you would with friends.

Every discussion you have with My AI will be recorded and may be examined to enhance the experience of the program.

Also, Snapchat advises users not to divulge any secrets to My AI or rely on the chatbot for guidance.

My AI is intended to avoid biased, inaccurate, damaging, or misleading information, but errors may still happen, according to the business.

By touching and holding on to any message from My AI, the social networking site encourage users to provide input.

Open AI’s ChatGPT has taken over the internet and gained popularity since its launch a few months ago.

As a result, over the past few months, AI has gained popularity as a trendy issue.

These aspects make it unsurprising that Snapchat is integrating an AI chatbot into its own messaging service.

Of course, the idea of safety is quite crucial considering that Snapchat caters to a young user base.

According to Snapchat, the chatbot is programmed to steer clear of offensive or deceptive subjects and won’t respond to them.

According to the company’s blog post, “Our app reaches 750 million people per month, with 75% of 13 to 34-year-olds in over 20 countries.”

“This technology could make these AI interactions part of what attracts our community to Snapchat by integrating it into Snapchat’s messaging platform.”

According to Snapchat, AI has the potential to contribute a lot to the app’s experience over time and promote deeper interactions.

My AI might temporarily increase the company’s paid member base, which has recently topped two million.
