AIT, Silverbird, Raypower FM, Rythm FM, and others have been directed to halt operations by the National Broadcasting Commission over N2.6 billion debt.

According to Channels, the Director-General of the NBC, Mallam Balarabe Shehu, made the disclosure on Friday, stating the media houses failed to renew broadcast licence.

Balarabe has directed the state officials of NBC to work with security agencies, to shut down operations in the media houses within the next 24 hours.

Balarabe also noted that the stations involved are owing a total of N2.6 billion, with some of them refusing to renew their license since 2015.

He said, “This is the first batch, there are those who have not renewed their licence since 2015, 2016 and 2017. We are asking them to come and pay their licence fees.”

The NBC Director-General further warned all other media houses with unrenewed licences to do so within the next 30-days or face sanctioning.
