Billionaire tech entrepreneur and investor, Mark Cuban has warned that online misinformation “is only going to get worse” as artificial intelligence platforms develop and spreads.

CNBC reported that according to Cuban, even with some kind of human safety barriers in place, misinformation currently spreads through social media sites like Facebook or Twitter. However, ChatGPT and other systems like it leave machines in charge.

He said that since the platform’s introduction in November, hundreds of millions of people have used ChatGPT to compose poems, give counsel, and deliver meal instructions. However, technology hasn’t yet demonstrated that it is more intelligent than the ordinary person.

“It’s a common social media trend to post the chatbot’s elementary mistakes. Sometimes ChatGPT provides inaccurate math solutions, declines to respond to simple riddles, and even “hallucinates”—or altogether fabricates historical persons, events, and other information that passes for fact.

“Additionally, ChatGPT has a tendency to contradict itself by giving inconsistent responses when the same question is asked multiple times.”

Cuban stated, “Our generation, Gen X and older, don’t get it. “Gen Z and younger, know how to filter things out, they’re not only native to it but they are more aware of all these problems.

Microsoft, on the other hand, admits that ChatGPT’s technology isn’t perfect, despite ambitions to include it in a future release of its Bing search engine.

“Today, they demand too much computation and are occasionally inaccurate… But even this week, expect announcements from Google and Microsoft, who are competing for dominance in this field, Gates added. “There will be significant improvement over the next years to make these things even better,” Cuban said.
