Elon Musk’s brain-implant company, Neuralink, is under investigation by the US department of transportation for potentially illegal movement of hazardous pathogens.

The Department spokesperson, on Thursday talked about the probe after the Physicians Committee of Responsible Medicine, an animal-welfare advocacy group wrote to the secretary of transport, Pete Buttigueg, to relay the information it obtained on the matter.

According to Reuters, PCRM said it obtained emails and other documents that suggest unsafe packaging and movement of implants removed from the brains of monkeys.

These implants may have carried infectious diseases in violation of federal law, PCRM said.

“We are conducting an investigation to ensure that Neuralink is in full compliance with federal regulations and keeping their workers and the public safe from potentially dangerous pathogens,” the spokesperson said.

It could be recalled that Neuralink has been under a federal investigation over potential animal welfare violations and that some of its staff made internal complaints about experiments being rushed, causing needless suffering and deaths.

Reuters further reported that neither Neuralink’s representative nor Musk himself has commented on the matter.
