Uber raises fares in Lagos

Uber pays New Jersey $100m over driver status dispute

Ride-hailing company, Uber, has increased its fares rate for UberX and UberX Shares in Lagos.

 

The fares rate hike which is slated to take effect today, 3 October, 2022 was disclosed to the drivers via email

 

According to the email, the hike in fares hike was as a result of “changing economic conditions, including increased fuel cost.”

 

Due to the changes, the base fare will increase from ₦340 to ₦450. The minimum fare will also increase from ₦600 to ₦650, while the per minute fare will go from ₦14 to ₦16.

 

The email read, “Fare update for UberX in Lagos!

 

At Uber, we remain committed to providing a reliable earnings opportunity for drivers and are aware of changing economic conditions, including increased fuel cost.

 

“With this in mind, effective today, fares will increase on UberX and UberX Share as follows:

 

“Updated fares from 3 October 2022:

 

“Base fare:

₦340 — ₦450

 

“Minimum fare:

₦600 — ₦650

 

“Per minute fare:

₦14 — ₦16

 

We are confident that these changes will have a positive impact on your earnings opportunity, and we will continue to work on initiatives which help in making Uber the app of choice for you.”

 

According to the Central Bank of Nigeria, the price of fuel in Nigeria has increased by 90.54% between December 2015 and December 2021.

 

In June 2022, the price of petrol was sold for between ₦170 and ₦190. However, users can still purchase petrol at lower prices depending on their location.
