Users of Microsoft services—Teams, Xbox Live, Outlook, and the Microsoft 365 suite were unable to access the services of the software giant early on Wednesday following a global outage suffered by the tech giant.
“We’re investigating issues impacting multiple Microsoft 365 services. More info can be found in the admin center under MO502273.” Microsoft acknowledged the outage via its Twitter page.
Microsoft’s status page for Office 365 currently displays the message that “users may be unable to access multiple Microsoft 365 services.”
“We’ve identified a potential networking issue and are reviewing telemetry to determine the next troubleshooting steps,” the page said in response to the outages
The downtime reports were severe in Australia, Britain, the United Arab Emirates, India, and Japan.
According to DownDetector, a tool that tracks the reliability of tech services, users of the services began reporting the inability to access Microsoft 365, Outlook, Teams, Minecraft, Azure, GitHub, and Microsoft Store an hour ago (2.30 a.m. Pacific Time).
Power Bi and LinkedIn, two of the many platforms owned by the tech giant are also experiencing downtime.
It is unclear if the 10,000 workers laid off last week is the cause of the outage and downtime in Microsoft.
“We’re also seeing organizations in every industry and geography exercise caution as some parts of the world are in a recession and other parts are anticipating one.”
He added that historically the company has had to make these kinds of “hard choices” to remain relevant in the industry “that is unforgiving to anyone who doesn’t adapt to platform shifts.” Microsoft CEO, Nadella wrote in an email memo sent to employees.
