MAFAB Communications is Nigeria’s newest telecom operator. On Thursday, the telecom operator inaugurated its 5G network for Nigerians. The ceremony happened in Abuja on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, and in Lagos on Thursday, January 26, 2023. The logo and brand name: Mcom were unveiled at the ceremony.

“As the second operator to launch 5G in Nigeria, Mcom expects more coverage for Nigerians and acceleration of broadband services,” Dr. Musbahu Bashir, chairman and founder of MAFAB, said at the event in Lagos.

This is not, however, the commercial launch of 5G services, as users cannot yet access or experience them. The commercial launch would be announced later, the company stated.

He also disclosed that the network services would be deployed in six cities later: Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Enugu, Kano, and Kaduna.

This launch is coming five months after MTN launched its 5G network in August 2022, and MAFAB was given an extension by the Nigerian Communications Commission for its 5G network rollout after it couldn’t meet up with the launch.

“I am now very much optimistic that we will achieve resounding success because of the opportunity that MAFAB 5G network represents,” Sanwo-Olu said excitedly at the launch.

The governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, was represented at the event by the state’s commissioner for science and technology, Hakeem Fahm.

MAFAB Communications Limited was founded by Musbahu Muhammad Bashir and registered in 2020 to provide and operate local and international carrier services.
