Instagram reinstates JFK's nephew's account ahead of elections

Meta’s Instagram on Sunday, reversed its suspension of the account of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the late President John F. Kennedy’s nephew.

According to the Washington Post, Kennedy, who is running against Biden for the Democratic primary, was kicked off the photo-sharing network in 2021 for allegedly disseminating erroneous claims about COVID-19 in violation of the platform’s pandemic policy.

“As he is now an active candidate for President of the United States, we have restored access to Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.’s Instagram account,” Andy Stone, Meta spokesperson said in a statement to the newspaper.

In a series of tweets on Thursday, Kennedy noted that Instagram had yet to reactivate his account and that “to silence a major political candidate is profoundly undemocratic.”

Kennedy’s relatives; Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, Joseph P. Kennedy II, and Maeve Kennedy McKean, wrote an op-ed in Politico in 2019 calling his earlier vaccine views “misinformation.”

YouTube will also prohibit channels affiliated with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and other major anti-vaccine advocates, including Joseph Mercola, in September 2021.
