India has concluded plans to announce its first semiconductor manufacturing unit soon.
Minister for Electronics and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, while at CII Partnership Summit 2023, said India is poised for a vibrant chip industry in the next 3-4 years.
He maintained that 99 per cent mobile phones used in the country are made in India as against same percentage being imported nearly a decade ago.
“And now the ecosystem is also shifting to the country. When it comes to mobile phone manufacturing India is number two in manufacturing, and number three in exports,” the minister said.
According to Gadget360, this year, the mobile phone exports will touch $9.5-10 billion.
India is now focusing on promoting the ecosystem as well as ensuring a clearly laid out policy framework that will be stable and consistent.
He reiterated that government is focused on creating and fostering the semiconductor industry to meet the standard in the nearest future
