Hormuud Telecom has announced the completion of the underwater cable landing station, which will boost internet access in for in Somalia.
Vertiv, a leading provider of essential digital infrastructure and continuity solutions contracted for the project completed the set up of the infrastructure.
The new infrastructure, according to Hormuud, is anticipated to assist regional economic, sociological, and digital growth as more Somali gains access to the internet.
By deploying cutting-edge and superior connectivity solutions, Hormuud Telecom wants to increase Somalis’ access to the internet through the installation of a new open access cable landing station.
Due to the geographical and technical challenges that would be encountered during the project’s execution, the Hormuud team determined that working with suppliers who had the ideal combination of technological expertise, experience, and portfolio was required to get the project started and see it through to completion.
Hormuud Telecom chose Vertiv as its top partner for digital infrastructure because of Vertiv’s breadth of expertise and success in bringing important technologies to Africa. Under the supervision of Hormuud Telecom and with the assistance of Pure Earth International, a Vertiv authorized distributor in the Horn of Africa, the cable landing station was furnished with VertivTM power and cooling apparatus.
For the project, Vertiv provided a range of solutions, including VertivTM Liebert PDX direct expansion floor-mount cooling units, VertivTM NetsureTM 7100 Semi-Bulk DC power systems, VertivTM Lieber PDX energy storage systems and inverters, as well as a number of VertivTM project services, like installation supervision and commissioning.
The setting up of this historic underwater cable, in the words of managing director of Vertiv in Africa, positions the region for MUCH-needed high-speed internet. “This cable landing station is crucial for Somalia’s digital development and for putting the country on the map of the world’s digitalization, all citizens must have access to the internet and data in today’s world, particularly in the post-pandemic world. The project’s objective is to close the current gaps in Somalia’s internet infrastructure.”
