Chip maker Nvidia, partner MediaTek to integrate AI into vehicles

Nvidia and MediaTek on Monday announced a collaboration on technologies to enable enhanced vehicle infotainment systems that can stream movies or games and interact with drivers via artificial intelligence.

MediaTek will embed an Nvidia graphic processing unit chiplet and Nvidia software into the system-on-chips it offers to automakers for entertainment screens under the terms of the deal, which was unveiled at the Computex technology trade event in Taipei.

According to the firms, MediaTek devices running Nvidia software would be interoperable with automated driving systems based on Nvidia technology. Dashboard screens may reveal the surrounding surroundings, while cameras would watch the driver.

Nvidia has concentrated its efforts on premium automakers such as Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar Land Rover. MediaTek, which is interested in the Android smartphone chip business, sells its Dimensity Auto technology to lower-priced, mass-market vehicle lines and specialises in mobile connectivity and Android systems.
