Google removed more than 3.4 billion adverts considered as “abusive content” and more than 5.6 million advertiser accounts from its platforms, the tech giant has revealed.

According to Google’s recently released 2021 report, it has removed over 600 million adult content, trademarks, gambling, and games from its network.

Gadgets Africa reports that over 5.7 billion ads were restricted by the tech giant according to the information made known to the public at the Google Ads Privacy Immersion workshop held in Lagos State.

In the report, 286.8 million adult materials; 136.9 million trademarks; 125.6 million inappropriate content; 75.1 million gambling and games; 60 million healthcare and medicines made up the 652.1 million ad that was removed from the company’s network.

Other ads that were labelled as abuse on the network include financial services, alcohol, copyrights, personalized ads, misrepresentation of facts, dangerous products and services, enabling dishonest behavior and counterfeit goods.

Businesses 511.4 million; financial services 223 million; health care and medicines 219.3 million; gambling and games 108.1 million; alcohol 128.5 million; adult content 126.1 million; legal requirements 105.7million and copyrights 68.6 million made up the 1.4 billion trademarks restricted by Google.

The No. 1 search giant said it took drastic actions to protect its 1.7 billion publisher pages by blocking, and restricting the defaulting ads from serving on the pages.

It is evident in the company’s decision to introduce a multi-strike system for repeated policy violations in 2021 as more than 30 policies or restrictions for advertisers and publishers were added or updated.
