Apple Pay launches in South Korea

Apple Pay was finally launched on Tuesday in South Korea, after months of regulatory delays.

Apple’s wallet and payment service in Korea, like in other markets, will be compatible with iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, and Mac.

“Apple Pay is now available in South Korea,” Duncan Olby, who leads Apple Pay, Wallet, and Payment for international markets, said at a press conference in Seoul on Tuesday.

“Users can use Wallet to add credit and debit cards to their iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, and Mac.”

Customers using Apple Pay can pay with their smartphones rather than physical payment cards in retail stores such as grocery stores, restaurants, and cafes throughout South Korea, as well as make purchases online, in-app, in-store, and on the web.

Since 2017, Apple, which introduced Apply Pay in 2014, has been attempting to bring the payment system to South Korea.

Initially, delays were caused by Apple’s inability to register as an electronic financial business operator in the country.

Apple Pay is now available in over 70 countries and regions, and it has partnered with over 10,000 banks worldwide.
